The Synergy Group’s Housing team specialises in placing Housing Managers into Housing Manager jobs. Housing Managers work with Local Councils, Housing Associations, Tenant Management Organisations and other organisations involved in housing on a range of areas from rent to anti social behaviour. Housing Manager jobs include the responsibility for ensuring that housing standards are met and that the team delivers an efficient service within budget. Housing Managers work within a strict but ever-changing regulatory framework and are usually based in a central office or local neighbourhood housing office. The role may involve line management responsibility for a team of housing officers and participation in strategic projects.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities for a Housing Manager include:
- managing a team of housing officer and housing assistants
- ensuring targets are met within budgetary constraints
- managing nuisance orders, collecting information and attending court hearings
- managing improvement loans and grants
- recruiting, supervising and training staff
- identifying housing needs
- developing new housing schemes
- managing new builds
- building relationships with the community
- interpreting and implementing housing legislation
Skills and Qualifications
Although entry without a degree or HND is possible, a degree in Housing, Facilities Management, Land, Estate or Property Management, Urban Studies, Planning and Social Administration would be advantageous. Relevant HND subjects include: Housing, Estate Management, Urban Studies, Public Administration and Business Management. Completion of a Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) course would be an advantage. Experience in the housing industry such as in estate management or a related customer service field would also be beneficial when applying for a Housing Manager post. A successful Housing Manager will need the following skills:
- strong managerial, interpersonal and organisational skills
- a level of sensitivity
- excellent numeracy skills
- budget management skills
- staff management skills
- excellent communication skills
- the ability to motivate a team
Salary Details
- salaries range from £30,000 to £43,000 dependant on experience and location
- at senior management or director level salaries rise to between £45,000 and £85,000
- car allowance is usually available
