Housing Assistant Jobs
The Synergy Group’s Housing team specialises in placing Housing Assistants into Housing Assistant jobs. Housing Assistants play a key role in maintaining housing waiting lists, the control of empty dwellings and the allocation of properties. They also advise prospective housing applicants about their housing options. A particular feature of the job is the need to develop innovative approaches to the letting of properties, and the promotion of renting options to applicants who may not previously have considered social housing.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities for a Housing Assistant include:
- allocating properties and advising and assisting members of the public on resolving their housing problems
- assisting tenants/applicants in their own homes to advise on appropriate housing options
- deputising for the Lettings Officer when necessary
- visiting applicants and tenants in their homes to assess applications for tenancies
- processing applications for mutual exchange
- liaising with Social Services Officers and visiting members of the public on the behalf regarding tenancy issues
- assisting members of the public to complete application and medical forms
- promote the letting of ‘hard to let’ properties by holding multiple viewings where necessary
Skills and Qualifications
A successful Housing Assistant will have the following skills and qualifications:
- excellent communication skills
- the ability to carry out accompanied viewings when necessary
- the ability to produce and interpret basic financial and statistic data
- the ability to explain complex policy issues to members of the public
- the ability to cope with stressful situations
- the ability to write clear and concise reports
- the ability to update Directorate of Housing computer programs as required
Some organisations will ask for candidates with at least 2 years experience in a housing organisation for this role. Education wise, a degree is not required for entry although a HND in Housing Studies would be advantageous.
Salary Details
- starting salaries will tend to range from £16,000 to £23,000 dependant on location
- temporary rates range from £6.50 to £11.00 per hour dependant on location
- positions available across the UK, generally on an ad-hoc basis
